The Communal Ear
Eiko Yamada & Teresa Hackel (duo) and Haydn Douet Lukies (solo)
The Orangery at Carrow House, 301 King Street, Norwich, NR1 2TN
7pm doors
music from 7.30pm

Teresa Hackel, born in Berlin and based in Switzerland and Eiko Yamada, born in Tokyo and based in Germany have known each other for about twenty years. As free improvising musicians, each sought her own way of expression and each gained her own colour.

The same familiar instrument created a connection between them every time they met. After having entertained the idea of a collaboration for a long time, they have been working together for 4 years. Their consistency in mixing their two colours as a purely acoustic recorder duo without any technical assistance and creating a form together with special playing techniques is absolutely unique and worth experiencing. It will be exciting to see whether one plus one will become more than two.
Haydn Douet Lukies is an English percussionist based in Lisbon, who performs and records with highly resonant metal objects. He is currently using two large antique brass vessels, creating improvised, hypnotic music that channels a lifetime of rhythmic obsessions.

Styles such as dembow, Arabic percussion, minimalism, and industrial dub are woven into long-form pieces that reflect what he's most excited by at the time of the performance. Haydn has just finished work on his upcoming debut EP, Old Dark Champagne, to be released soon.’.
